About IGUMO IT
The Institute for the Humanities and IT (IGUMO IT) is an establishment of higher learning which has been providing professional training since 1992.
Following the traditions of Russian higher school, the Institute is actively mastering educational innovations. Alongside classical departments (Economics and Management, Law, Psychology, Foreign Languages, Journalism) the Institute is successfully providing training at the departments arisen in response to the society’s demands (the Information Technologies Department and the Publicity and PR Department), and at the unique Drama Department.
There was established the IGUMO IT Academic Council at the Institute that set and controls 23 Professorial Chairs. IGUMO IT trains future specialists on 23 specialties and areas of higher learning, 6 specialties of secondary learning, 4 academic specialties of postgraduate studies and 4 academic curricula of further studies (pre-study training and further training of specialists).
The content of the academic curricula, developed in all implemented specialties and areas of the Institute, meets the requirements of the updated National Educational Standards of Higher Learning.
The total number of the faculty providing training at the Institute, makes up nearly 150 people; most of them (88%) have higher university degrees and the ranks of PhDs, PhD Associate Professors, PhD Professors. The research activities of the Institute are being held in 7 strategic research areas in accord with which the planning of research and the defense of theses are held as well as working up and publishing of the research projects results.
IGUMO IT convenes annually joint conferences of different rank in a variety of fields: international, national, interuniversity and departmental ones. Following the results of these activities, collections of the IGUMO IT conferences scholarly articles are published. Both the professors and the students of the Institute take part in research events that other Institutions and research centres hold. They publish the results of their own research in Russian and overseas printed books.
The work of the students’ voluntary organizations is paid much attention to at the Institute. There function at IGUMO IT the Students’ Council, Students’ Research Society, Students’ Mass Media and Students’ Business-Incubator.
The Institute library contains more than 200 thousand of publication copies. It equally contributes to training of highly skilled specialists, to updating of training, research and education as well as to the motivation of self-education. A reference hall fully equipped with automated work places with Internet access for working with electronic publications has been recently added to the IGUMO IT’s comfortable and quiet reading room.
New IT and computer technologies are commonly employed at the Institute in training of certified specialists. Electronic manuals and data obtained through world-wide information net-work have taken the roots in the process of training at IGUMO IT. The Software and information support of the Institute includes modern software and training programs. The resources are available from the computer classrooms and local working places linked up to the corporate network of the Institute. A computer-aided system of the training process management provides the quality control basement of specialists training.
The Institute pre-higher education training includes specialized academic competitions among school students and profession-related guidance in the schools of Moscow Eastern Administrative Area as well as pre-study training of school-leavers at the preliminary courses.
The purposeful work of the Departments and Professorial Chairs on organizing the students’ job-related training at regular job positions of different organizations in accord with the specialization chosen is aimed at securing the graduates’ employment. The analysis of the IGUMO IT graduates’ employment shows the high quality of their training; they are in constant demand at the job market. It was facilitated by the following factors: the restructuring of the IGUMO specialists training over the last 5 years forced by the job market requirements of the region, and the opening of new specialties and specializations within the framework of the existing ones.
Of great importance in IGUMO IT is healthy lifestyle promotion and athletic and sports development. The Institute regularly conducts championships in volleyball, bowling, indoor soccer, swimming, shooting and table tennis. Every year the students of the Institute take part in numerous district, city, national and international competitions in various sports.
Cultural and educational events have always been popular among the students; they take place every month. It has become a good tradition to organize sessions of the clubs of «the Cheerful and the Inventive» and «What? Where? When?».

The Institute is steadily approaching new heights; it ranks among the most valued nongovernmental private higher education institutions of Moscow.
