“Cinderella” in the German Language

April, 20 through 28, 2008 Professor of the Free University of Berlin, an Honoured Doctor of the Saint-Petersburg State University, Ph. D. (Linguistics), Franz Simmler was giving lectures and seminars to the students of the Department of Foreign languages who study the German language.
The lectures were devoted to current problems of German Syntax. Professor Franz Simmler subjected to analysis both the general rules of word order in German and the new trends of locating primary and secondary parts of the sentence in simple and composite sentences. Another point of discussion was parcelling – a stylistic device used in bell-lettres style. There was some lively debate after the lectures.
The typical structural and linguistic peculiarities of fairy tales were thoroughly examined at the seminars conducted by the Professor. Professor Simmler illustrated his point of view with examples from «Cinderella».
No doubt, the lectures and seminars held by the German guest-professor are of great value. The new set of theory plus a bit of training and personal contacts with Professor Franz Simmler will contribute to the IGUMO students’ mastering of the German language.
